Applications just went out last Friday and we’re happy to report that some of our invited artists are happy to get the call to return.

Handpainted earrings by Jebedi's Jewels
Jeannie Snyder of Jebedi’s Jewels has answered our invite back in the affirmative and sent a few new images of her work for us to use in publicity. You can see more of her work on her
website.

Sling Pack with Heart Concho
Also quick to get us a few images was Judi Smith of Eugene Leather Works. Judi and Ken have been long-time veterans of our festival and their lovely handcrafted leather work is a favorite with many. Their
website also shows more of their work.

…well as soon as I drop them off. After all that folding and stuffing and stamping we’re taking a deep breath before the application frenzy begins and we’re committed to ‘doing it all again’ in September. Ha!
Over 300 applications will head out to artists who have done the show and/or expressed interest in doing the show in the past 3 years. If you don’t get yours within a week please let us know. We also invite back some of our top sellers and all our local guild booths — this year 65 of our 170 booths — so you’ll be sure to see some of your favorites again this year.
If you’ve seen an artist at another fair and think they should come do Fall Festival, please DO encourage him/her to apply. Applications are online and ready to download now.
Musicians — your application is up there too.

There has been an overwhelmingly good response to our Mini-Workshop (Art Fairs 101) AND the new Artist Peer Marketing Group we’ll be starting up next week. In a little over a week we’ve filled up the spaces in both.
If there are still people interested in the Mini-workshop, we’ll hold another session Tuesday, March 23, noon-2 pm.
If you missed out being in on our first Peer Mkt Group, we’ll keep your contact info on file for a second group to start up once we get this first one underway and we get enough participants. Contact us: director @ corvallisfallfestival.com.

2009 Best In Show Winner: Chris Giffin
We’re starting to hear from artists and musicians who would like to participate in our 38th Annual Corvallis Fall Festival– September 25 & 26, 2010. Applications will be available to download from our website beginning
February 1. Deadline for applications is
May 1, 2010 RECEIVED.
If you were a visual artist who attended or applied to this year’s festival you should receive an application in the US Mail from us. If you have trouble downloading or printing out PDFs, let us know via our Contact Us page. For more information on our process, please see our Artist FAQs page.
Musicians: we do not maintain a US mailing list for you since you all seem to move around a lot (we don’t mean this in a “bad way”!!), and most of you all seem to be computer saavy. (Two generalizations in one paragraph!) You will need to return to us a completely filled out application and music sample by the deadline.
Let us know if you have questions via our Contact Us page.

We’ve just uploaded a few more images to our Festival Photo Gallery, via Flickr. Thanks to Jim Johnson for some fabulous photos. He truly captured the fun crowds and excitement of the Main Stage, as well as how yummy the fair food looks on a sunny day.
Truth be told, some of the photos are from 2008 but we just received them from Jim in their high resolution versions, and they are so super we just had to post them. For example, two great shots from 2008 of performer, Linda Hornbuckle, who is a festival favorite around the Pacific Northwest, as well as some of the crowd enjoying and participating in the music. Plus there is a great close-up of Mark Lynch with the local band “Caught in the Act.” We also like an image of woodworker Dick Millager working on a new carving. Look at the Main Stage and Artist Booth categories to see them
Thanks Jim and Crows Eye Imagery for your volunteer time and great photography.

Louise Johnson-Children's Stage Manager
Now we know how Children’s Stage Manager Louise Johnson has so much energy…she works out regularly at Linn-Benton’s Better Bones and Balance class. Workouts were designed to help keep people leading active lives, and Louise is a testament to how it works. See the OSU Terra article about fitness here. There is a swell image of her in class.
Louise runs circles around the rest of us Fall Festival weekend, and had led an active retiree life for years.
Thanks Louise.

The artwork we chose for each year’s poster is one of the first tasks for the new year. We try and get this done in December so that the artist has enough time to complete a new image for us by the end of February. The artwork is one of our main marketing tools for the year so the image must work well black and white–how it will be reproduced the most–as well as represent the Autumnal season and somehow Corvallis.
We typically ask an artist to fulfill this for us because we’re so very picky and really DO NOT want to preview and reject a lot of great artwork, but have had a couple of unsolicited submissions this year. My poster committee will be deciding this shortly and DO have some other artists already in mind–so please, no more submissions! We’re just curious what what you think about these. Let us know via “comments” option. Thanks

The work of Fall Festival Volunteer Tasha Galardi was profiled in the fall edition of TERRA, OSU’s Research and Communication’s publication. Galardi’s work researching family migration into the United States led her to learn more about migrant farm laborers, or Braceros, and the story of one family in particular.
Read about her work doing historical interviews and the interesting story of these Bracero families via this link. The web link includes a video of Galardi and OSU Librarian Larry Landis talking about the library’s collection of farm worker photographs.
Fall Festival volunteers help enrich life in our area and we are so thankful when they give time to us.
